People choose to volunteer for a variety of reasons. For some it offers the chance to give something back to the community or make a difference to the people around them. For others it provides an opportunity to develop new skills or build on existing experience and knowledge. Regardless of the motivation, what unites them all is that they find it both challenging and rewarding.

LILLIA’S STORY
“After I retired from school, I thought sitting around didn’t do any good. So I decided to try it and call the director and he told me, we want to let you sit in the office. I said, no, you will not, because I’ve sat in the school room for so long. I would like to be outside helping someone. So what, 20 years I’ve been helping the volunteer who has the group and I enjoy it and I enjoy helping students, some of which were my students when I was in school. And the other family members and their children seeing the happiness from them.”
BARNEY’S STORY
“When I retired, I started blinking about, what can I do to give back to the community. You know, I’ve been so blessed in my life and I said, yeah, this is time. I really need to get him back. And, and for me, this was just the perfect place. everyone here has had such a warm heart, good people to work with. It’s fun to volunteer. I’ve increased my skills. I can do anything. So is this an education? Every day you’ll learn amazing things and you work with the best people in the world. It’s just, you’ll find no better people.”
